April

April presented with several different types of head pain making for continual discomfort around the clock. She also experienced pain in her neck and shoulders. She had been in physical therapy for a prolonged period of time, and chiropractic care produced limited results. We told her we were not sure if we would be able to help but she decided to start muscle biofeedback (surface electromyography or sEMG) that helped her discover how her muscles were contributing to her pain, and learn how to use her muscles differently for pain reduction. The feedback on the computer monitor helped her see which muscles were contributing to her head and neck pain. Through proper exercise and stretching she was able to learn ways to use her muscles in a much healthier movement pattern thereby lowering pain levels, allowing her to exercise and rest more effectively and comfortably. Only three sessions were needed to allow her to stop using a TENS unit and Lidocaine patches. She had re-gained full range of motion of her shoulder.
