Sam's Story

“Sam” came to Dr. Esty for treatment after reading an article about Neurofeedback. He was hoping to get help for symptoms that he struggled with for the past eighteen years following metastatic brain cancer surgery. We began Neurofeedback treatment for the cognitive problems that are common after chemotherapy. Prior to the cancer treatment he was a very high functioning professional but he now had severe short-term memory problems, found it difficult to remember what he read, and had difficulty following conversations. He also found organizing and motivation to be interfering with his work and daily life.

After eight treatments his energy, motivation, and memory were improved enough that his job performance was better. He was also remembering his dreams and no longer feeling cold, two significant signs of better brain functioning. At this point he decided to pursue more professional training, then he returned to Neurofeedback treatment a year later. After another 12 treatments he reported good functioning in all areas and three years later is working fulltime in his chosen professional field.

Neurofeedback is often an efficient method for regaining cognitive functioning and regaining energy after cancer treatment.
