Belinda, 10 years old, was referred by a family friend for FNS treatment for many symptoms of post-concussion syndrome (PCS), constant headache, and weakness. These all started after she kicked in the head during a soccer game. The ER diagnosed here with PCS. Along with double vision, she had severe fatigue, constant headache, and leg weakness that began about two weeks after the concussion. The legs would just give out from under her so she had to use a walker to get around. Almost any activity increased headache pain and as months went by anxiety grew. Six months of struggling, waiting, and hoping that these problems would go away affected virtually every area of her daily life. Many other therapies were tried but problems all these problems persisted.
Belinda’s FNS EEG map data were consistent with post-concussion symptoms and a contra-coup injury. She was reluctant to begin FNS treatment because other treatments had not helped. After two FNS treatments her sleep improved and nighttime anxiety reduced. After the third she was able to do a small amount of schoolwork. After the ninth treatment major change occurred. Here is some of what Belinda wrote about her experience after her ninth treatment:
“At first [after that treatment started] nothing happened, then my six month long headache was gone: as fast as a cowardly puppy who had just seen a bear. Right after that everything went clear, like the first time you put on glasses.”
After this session Belinda’s mother reported that she finished eight months of schoolwork in eight weeks. Months later she is still free of all symptoms.
