Eli, 10 years old, was referred by a physician for treatment for symptoms of ADHD and behavioral problems that were causing problems at home and
with friends. He was impulsive, explosive, rigid in his behaviors and expectations of others, and had difficulty making transitions from one activity
to another. There may have been some mild head trauma involved in a traumatic birth, a fall when he was in kindergarten, and several skiing incidents. Regardless
of the cause his behavior was creating significant academic and social problems. Medication was only temporarily helpful with the ADHD
symptoms and Eli's parents were eager to find a non-medication approach, but most of all to find a way to change Eli's behavior.
The EEG mapping data were consistent with the symptoms reported. Because of the EEG pattern of firing we started Eli on both FNS and Z-Score
Neurofeedback in one 45-minute session. Over the 10-month course of 32 treatments (including some 2 or 3 week breaks), Eli had a total resolution of
symptoms. He became more considerate of others, after 23 treatmetns he studied for over five hours for tests in one sitting! At this point we moved
treatments to every other week instead of weekly. Treatment began shortly before the end of the school year and was changed from twice a week
to once every other week in late September because fo the positive changes.
Symptoms were rated from 0 (no problem) to 10 (extreme problem) to reflect changes during treatment. We ask our clients/parents to rate these systematically
in order to know if we are on the right path or need to make changes in the treatment plan. Eli's impulsivity, rigidity, organizing and transition scores
all reduced by at least 90%. His sleep improved. Explosiveness started at 7 and after 3 treatments was a 0 and remained there. The parents are
extremely pleased at their son's ability to participate fully and appropriately in the family and with other children. In the fall his grades
improved and he got the best score in the class on a project. His report cards reflected these changes also in better academic performance.
The original referral was the result of the referring physician observing changes in another child with similar behavioral and learning issues.
This physician continues to recommend the Brain Wellness and Biofeedback Center for other children and adults.
