Rob was injured in a crash that happened when his police cruiser was hit. The brain injury required removal of part of the left temporal lobe leaving him with right hemi paralysis and expressive aphasia. He could say only a few words and two or three word phrases. Extreme frustration at this new limitation was a big problem. He was referred for FNS treatment by his rehabilitation doctor and underwent workman’s compensation-funded extensive treatment over the next three years.
We started with FNS treatment and he responded with important changes. The muscle tone in his right hand relaxed and over time he regained more use as we introduced surface electromyography (sEMG or muscle) biofeedback. The change in his daily life was extremely important because he was able to walk more easily, and take care of their two young children so his wife could return to work. One day during the first year of treatment his increased strength passed a hard test. He attended a major golf tournament in DC, walking the entire hilly course, and was still in good shape!
A letter from his doctor supports his progress.
